The most popular wedding songs of all time

Music is a big part of weddings because, without it, the ceremony would be dull. It’s an unwritten rule that every celebration should include music and, according to a study conducted by Groomsday on Spotify playlists, most couples prefer R&B and funk music.

“Choosing the right music for your wedding can be the difference between a rowdy and memorable celebration and a dull event,” said wedding expert Chris Bajda, from online wedding retailer GroomsDay.

“The process of choosing songs should reflect the couple’s personality and love story without being so niche that the guests can’t recognise any of the music.”

Below are the top 10 most-played songs at weddings worldwide:

1. “Uptown Funk”:

Sitting at the top is a song by Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, with a popularity score of 90.49, thanks to its 2 billion streams on Spotify and 81,090 monthly searches. Although “Uptown Funk” was released ten years ago, it is still a hit.

2. Outkast’s “Hey Ya!”

This timeless single released over twenty years ago is the second most-played song at weddings with a 78.19 popularity score and close to 1.5 billion streams on Spotify.

3. “All of Me” by John Legend

This love song has always been a go-to song for that slow dance moment. With a popularity score of 65.99 and 2.5 billion streams on Spotify, this song fills the room with love whenever it’s played.

4. Avicii’s “Wake Me Up”

He may be gone, but his music lives. “Wake Me Up” was number one in over 40 countries when it was first released, so it’s no surprise that it has a popularity score of 61.84 and 2.5 billion streams on Spotify over a decade after it came out.

5. “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran

Another love song perfect for a wedding day, especially during the slow dance. “Thinking Out Loud” has 2.6 billion streams on Spotify and a popularity score of 60.02.

“Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis is sitting at number six with a popularity score of 57.59, followed by Bruno Mars’ “Just the Way You Are” with a score of 56.71.

Number eight is Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years” with a popularity score of 52.68, followed by “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz with a score of 49.61. And lastly, Black Eyed Peas’ “Gotta Feeling” is number 10 with a popularity score of 44.42.
